Mrs Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself

By Neslihan
It's a Sunday morning, soft breeze underneath your dress, chaos in your hair and a heavenly voice singing to you. It's the perfect scenario for a perfect summer day. The days are long, the nights are short and it feels as if your holiday is endless, as if you still have a lifetime to start and even to finish the things you want to do. Nothing feels forced and the sunshine makes everything lighter. Today was a lazy day? No problem, you still have tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, and the day after that. It's just the randomness of summer that appeals to me; as if you can meet new people on every corner of the street. Coffee dates at noon, picnick after 12, really bad movies at midnight. Oh, how I've missed the spare time to do those little nothings.
And even though the collage is rather stuffed it represents my mood effortlessly. I want my days to be  filled with caprisun, daisies in my hair and good books. I want soft fabrics because summer -more than any other season- is about caressing your skin with lace, silk and satin. I want to smell the rain on the hot city concrete. I want to feel the sun on my shaven legs. But above all, I want the summer. Could you stay for a while?

Confused girls do it better

By Neslihan
There is actually no clue or consistency in the collage I've created above. It was just a way to share one of the many enchanting Lana Del Rey pics featured in this month's L'Officiel Paris. In that photoshoot we see a furiously sexy Del Rey, who remains mysterious with every taken picture. The setting, the outfits, the make-up, the hair, everything was in balance and the whole story about a certain 'Rosalita' (impersonated by Lana) was just so credible. And even though I would like to go on and on about Lana's pictures this post was meant to be about something else.
Let's talk about confusion. Confusion is when you enter a twilight zone. Confusion is when you know the answer but your lips are too afraid to form the words. Confusion is screaming in your head while everything around you is quiet. Confusion is being in the moment but not daring to use your initiative. Love is confusion. Friendship is confusion. And confusion is either downfall, either enlightenment.

It's a bad religion

By Neslihan
As I see my reflection in the window glass, I'm trying to figure out how I'll call the outfit I'm wearing today. 'Effortless cool'? Or 'lazy sloppiness'? I decide to go for the last option since a bad hairday is not very fashion. I don't really stand still or take minute to judge as I'm constantly on the move for something, anything. Judging is a way of living. And no, I'm not telling you all to beat yourselves up about the way you look. I judge so I can gradually evolve. The ancient Greeks would call it 'hybris', I call it 'self consciousness'. And I don't know whether it's karma or God trying to tell me something but I'm being punished for this fickle confidence. Not being pleased with the content of your closet is one of the worst things that can happen to a girl. Or that's what I thought until I saw Marc Jacobs' shoes during s/s 2013 RTW collection. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with those socks in those sandals/flip flops? It sure is an amusing way to raise your middlefinger in the air to show Wintour you don't give a damn about rules and conformism but still... And that's not all, my dearest reader- as I think I only have one at the moment. Just when I thought shit couldn't get any worse, I'm losing and breaking my favourite earrings. I'd shed tears but that would be a tat over the top. Maybe it's time to pray again.

Good Taste/Bad Taste

By Neslihan
Every season there are some remarkable trends/clothing pieces. Pieces that make you think: ew no, I will never wear this. You have to get used to the ugliness and/or oddity of those pieces. Once your eyes get used to it, you fall in love though. And only you get this love, you cannot explain. You cannot make others love it too. They won't understand. No one will but you don't care because the joy those pieces bring is worth every strange look you're given in the streets. It becomes your favourite piece and you wear it, you cherish it. You live it until the next season brings something else. It's time to let go. Some of us do and think: what was I thinking? Others don't and that item becomes a part of thier lives. It becomes a historical item. Something to pass on to the next generation.

Baggy luxurious sweaters
Absolute talk of the town are Balenciaga's excentric yet very cool sweaters. They have those strange 80's pictures and crazy laserish effects on them. Purple, pink, red: you name it, Balenciaga has it. Those chic sweaters were also spotted on Hakaan's runway but he went for a chilly metallic version. The sleeves were equally puffy. (Both fall/winter 2012 RTW)

Metallic patchwork
A little shimmer a day keeps the doctor away. I think sparkles, glitters, metallics certainly light up your outfit and even your mood. I like how a little bit of the previous can give your outfit this playful naiveté. As if you stepped right into your childhood again. And that was just what Huseyin Chalayan evoked in me. You cannot put Chalayan's dress as simply childish patchwork though because it's too sophisticated for that. Look at that finishing and the fit of the dress. See how he has used beige to keep the whole outfit in balance. It's kindergarten for grown-ups. The second dress is not from this season but it belongs to s/s 2013. This actually shows us that metallics are a keeper this year. Thank you, Hugo Boss.

Layering
While Marni kept it simple, A.F. Vandervorst went in overdrive. Marni was about taking 'colourblocking' to the next level. See how every piece totally 'stands' on its own and how it -at the same time- blends in with the other pieces. It's all about layers and neutral colours making the totality wearable. 'Wearable' is not a disgusting word. Repeat after me: WEAR-ABLE. Good girl/boy. We saw something else on the A.F. Vandervorst runway though. The Belgian couple played hide and seek with us and were inspired by Joseph Beuys. Google this man and you'll get the hats. Fashion was never this anonymous. (Both fall/winter 2013 RTW)

Living sculptures

You can interpret this one as wide as you want. Maison Martin Margiela never disappoints me, that's one thing I can say. When haute couture was about the amazing diamond masks, ready to wear is a little less freaky. You'd almost say 'civilian' if you didn't look past the three first looks because those skirts are divine, you've got to admit. Creating a new meaning for two previous trends (peplum and asymmetrical skirts) in only one show? I'd say genius. Look at that gorgeous fish tail/peplummed skirt. Look at the rich fabric and prints. See how this image clashes with the image underneath it (read 'Viktor and Rolf'). The Dutch duo based their collection on strong women. "Oh, how original." Stop right there. They went for femme fatales and actual female warriors (the red faces say it all). Look at the coat, it looks like it's made from shiny grey, handicraft paper. The gear wheels are murderous. (Both fall/winter 2013 RTW)

A lesson in history
Dries Van Noten had access to the archives of the Victoria and Albert Museum. He used Japanese and Chinese images and mixed them with his well-known abstract prints. This created new prints of course. And aren't amazing prints Van Notens trademark? While Dries focussed on the Eastern history, the Italian fashion duo, Dolce & Gabbana, chose the Sistine Chapel as inspiration. The embellishments combined all together were at times too much but the prints are definitely something to think about. (Both fall/winter 2013 RTW)

Outfit post³

By Neslihan
Hello, it has been a while again but I'm just too lazy to write something relevant these days. And also I've been working in this grocery store, so I didn't quite feel like writing about an extensive topic. Now that I'm done working, I can fully enjoy my Summer break again. Let it please be warm so I can wear my dresses and sweat my ass off. I'm back but it might take a while before I get started again. You can all take a look at the photos I took last week. And always wear your sunglasses.
Here I'm wearing a vintage white dress one of my nieces gave me. Also wearing WHITE shoes when I was always the one who claimed white shoes were awefully trashy. That was until I saw these. I know the whole thing looks a bit too white but it actually doesn't really bother me. It's a Nurse X Bride look. Note how depressing my neighbourbood actually looks.
I got this necklace from my 5-year old niece. She made the psychedelic beads from pasticine and I think it's the cutest thing I've ever seen. I also adore my Louis Vuitton but actually New Look top.

This outfit was from the day I met my friend and we had a whole bunch of fun. We took like 200 pictures and ate a bag of M&M's. I got this dress from the sales and I could marry John Galliano in it but I could also sleep, do sports and jump in it.

SCARY SCARY SCARY

Doing some crazy dance moves in front of my friend until I come home and...
...see this. It's Helena Bonham Carter for Marc Jacobs, you guys! Can you actually see the similarity between our moves. Lol lol lol

"Oh em gee, she's fooling around with paint!" part two

By Neslihan

The other day I got bored and played with paint again. It's this childish joy that makes me wanna play with it. And since I had stored fuckloads of pictures on my hard drive, I thought, why not? That's how I ended up writing things like 'pastel tears',  'you make my heart go boom, boom, boom' and something about pompons. Free time is dangerous and those pictures are the ultimate proof of that. Please do not mind my ugly hand writing. Just enjoy the pics and share your thoughts.

I think Vogue Japan has the most amazing photoshoots. They just don't set boundaries but it never gets irrelevant, ugly, or stupid. This is the fashionable version of a goofy cat lady.

I am so in love with this transparency trend. You've seen Simone Rocha do it but a little more recent on this blog were MMM's transparent shoes. I don't know who these shorts belong to but they're freakin' awesome.

When I first saw Azealia Banks in a magazine, I didn't know who she was. Was she a singer? Or was she a model? I still don't know who she is but I've heard that she's a singer. What I do know is that the dress on the picture is a total delight, the colour, the collar, the glitters, the pompons and the SHOES are amazing! Adoring this look.
I hope you're listening (or reading in your case) attentively right now. I'd like to intoduce you an upcomming talent: Loza Maléombho. A NY based fashion designer who has created the most ethnic F/W 2013 collection of the year. The fabrics are rich and colourful. It's African culture splashed on dresses, skirts, tops and pants. And it's 100 % wearable.
I've got a thing for masculine shoes and I cannot help it. This blue'ish pair, belonging to Marc Jacobs (F/W 2013) is just perfect but it's an impossible love story since this is is a part of the men's collection and they won't have a size 38 and even if they had, it probably costs hundreds upon hundreds of Euros.
In the other post I had mentioned a pastel puke jumper, well this is it. Any one who hasn't done charity this year? You can invest in me by giving me this fabulous Stella McCartney jumper.

For once and for all: Riccardo Tisci is the whizzkid of fashion (along with some other favourites of mine). It doesn't matter what he does (haute couture/ prêt à porter) or when he does it (fall/winter, spring/summer, cruise), he nails it every friggin' time. And that counts for both the men's and women's line. Givenchy cruise 2013.

Talking 'bout Marx and Fashion

By Neslihan

It has been calm around here. As many of you might already know: june is exam month. A month during which we, students, imprison ourselves to be drowned in the pool of interesting/useless knowledge. We battle against sleepless nights, constant stress, headaches, suicidal thoughts etc. Okay, I admit, the last one was a tat exaggerated but what's life without a bit of drama and bullshit? I have been looking forward to the end of this exam period since day ONE. And if you haven't, well, then you're not human and we have nothing in common. BYE.
Today however was my final exam: an oral exam of History. As much as I love history, I was most definitely not looking forward to learn Marx' theories about alienation of the worker or the surplus value by heart. Don't get me wrong, Marx fascinates me. I just love how revolutionairy his ideas were for his time. And how he, one of the very few, raised his voice against the firm social structures. How he was able to formulate the problems in a very clear way. Those were the times during which people tried to get the esence of life.
I know how contadictional it is to write about Marx and about being an anti-capitalist (which I do not claim to be) when you're blogging constantly about the shoes you want to have or the dresses you want to wear but one is more than a blogger only. And you shouldn't take blogging too seriously. Everyone has a different vision on blogging. Well, this is mine.
I don't believe that fashion can save the world. I'm too rational for that. I do believe that fashion can make the hard walk prettier. I totally get how cliché this sounds but that's the way it is. There are more important things in life than only fashion. Fashion is a big part of my life, yes but it isn't everything. It's the thing I turn to when things get too heavy. It's a guidance through political changes. Or it's a medium to express your political disagreance. Either way I always contradict myself when it comes to fashion. I just want to say that fashion to me, is not just another random fact that is stricktly about beauty.
After this 'short' commentation on Marx et la mode I'd like to say I'm back in case you haven't noticed. I've got truckloads of subjects to blog about and seas of time to this. I'm not going to impose myself to do things during the weeks to come but my head is exploding with potential blogging subjects.
Workers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your chains.

"Oh em gee, she's fooling around with paint!"

By Neslihan
Hello there crazies,
I felt a little bored yesterday and had the uncontrollable urge to play with paint. It's funny how something stupid can immediately beam you  to a certain phrase in your life. And yes, I'm talking about my years as a 10 or 11-year-old. You know, that period during which you think you know everything but the scariest things still have to come, along with puberty. You're exploring everything, clothing, music and even the internet. Dressing dolls and feeling like Tim Gunn. Oh, the good ol' times. Seeing a couple of pieces on the catwalk also evoked that nostalgic feeling. Christopher kane played with shiny metalics for his last s/s collection and also made some flower collages, which reminded me of my own fashion collages. When we moved to an unparticular middle of nowhere, I felt alone and bored. So, I had to find some kind of way to amuse myself. I started to collect gossip magazines (the only magazines in our house back then) and ripped the last style pages out of it and started to cut and paste images on a white sheet of paper. I'd write titles with coloured glitter pens and one day, those titles became full articles. One page became many and this way, I'd create my own fashion magazine without stupid advertisings. I'd give my magazines names but don't ask me which because the only name I can remember is 'Heirs'. Don't ask me why either. As I became older though, I discovered fashion magazines and started collecting them without ripping pages out of it. Because I knew every edition of Vogue or L'officiel was a holy beacon of inspiration that had cost its creators blood, sweat, tears and uncountable hours of overtime work. You don't start to cut in the bible, do you? One day making childish fashion magazines wasn't enough though, so I had to find some other way to temper my fashion hunger. That way was blogging. I started blogging on netlog and later on facebook. Then on weblog, to eventually start a blog on blogger. That's the little journey I've made so far. Coming back on the pictures below: they're from various collections. I've picked the ones of which I thought they'd be interesting to accompany my writing. Scroll down for more information.

I am so in love with this cute, little clutch. It looks like it's a picture from some biology textbook. Very nostalgia-proof. Christopher Kane (s/s 2012 RTW)
Riccardo Tisci really is one of the last masters of sheer haute couture. His s/s 2012 HC collection for Givenchy was memorable. Certainly the first two dresses. I wouldn't call it spring/summer though because the heavy colours and fabrics scream fall/winter. It were not the clothes though that held my attention. No, this time it were the accessories. What about this amazing nosering?

I thought this was a funny way to tell the person next to you to shut the hell up. Marc by Marc Jacobs

Two rules when buying a bag:
  1. Big enough to hide my junk.
  2. Aesthetically interesting to look at.
Conclusion: this Lacoste bag has it all.

If I want to be amazed, repulsed or happy I turn to Martin. He knows how to awake those feelings all at once. Those shoes above really remind me of a friend's transparant raincoat from back then. Maison Martin Margiela s/s 2012 RTW

Do you remember yourself painting when you were little. You'd mingle the blues and the reds and the yellows, really thinking those colours went well together. You'd finish your painting and your mum or dad would call it an artwork and hang it on their wall or freezer. Well, that's what Junya Watanabe's model reminded me of. Green painted gummy hair + bitchy face = Junya Watanabe s/s 2012 RTW
