The blogger has a face

This blog post is actually a milestone in this blog's history. An outfit post, who thought that would ever happen? You've got all sorts of bloggers, like I've ever said. Some are great with tutorials, others are amazing style icons, some others try to talk about the things that keep 'em busy in this industry and I guess I belong to the last group since I suck at make-up and hair and since I don't like to take a lot of pictures of myself. This is not the "I'm so insecure about the way I look" teenager blog post, it's just that I'm not so photogenic and that's fine. I've accepted that fact years ago. 

My style is quite simple because comfort is key. I like bright colours and floral prints, like mentioned in every blog post. And I do not wear heels that often. I'm more of a flats person. The shoes I'm wearing in this blog post are creepers from Doctor Martens (seen here). I fell in love with them just like that. Loving the burgundy colour but they are quite heavy. The first time I wore them, I had to find my balance. I am not kidding you. Anyway this outfit turned out to be more hipster than I wanted it to look like but I couldn't help it. I just put together the things I liked the most and this is the result. I'm more impulsive when it comes to putting my outfits together. It totally depends on the mood I'm having. I'd used to put my outfit together the night before but I've stopped doing so since I became too lazy.

It's such a funny outfit post because that day was rather hot (24°C) and muggy and I wore pants and a jeans shirt. I obviously didn't know what I was thinking. For those of you asking, yes, I've sweat my ass off that day. Nothing actually says summer in this outfit besides Vogue Nederland's July/August edition. I adored the cover when I saw it. So feminine, sexy and summery but I was disappointed with the content. Only the 'Riches of the Reef' photoshoot was satisfactory. I pretty much liked the roughness of that shoot. I could've adored the 'Jouer à la plage' shoot but I simply did not get the 'let's wear a bra and undies underneath our bikinis' concept. I also thought that the 'Is nature my only way' shoot was nice but we get the hazy effect thing in three pictures, you don't need to make a whole photoshoot based on cloudy, yellow'ish effects.

"Vogue Nederland is coming..."

Het is zowat surreëel, die eerste Nederlandse Vogue. Een versie waarvan ik, als 14-jarige betweterige puber, dacht dat die er nooit van zou komen. Nederland of België zijn Frankrijk of Amerika niet. Hier is het modeplatform niet zo groot, zeker niet in vergelijking met Parijs of Milaan, dacht ik dan. De laatste jaren echter zijn de Nederlanders en Belgen heel goed bezig in modeland, zowel de modeontwerpers als de modellen zelf. We hebben al heel wat geniale couturiers in onze Lage Landen, zo denk ik dan bijvoorbeeld aan Dries van Noten, Viktor en Rolf en Iris Van Herpen, eentje van de jongste generatie. De Belgische make-upartiest, Peter Philips, is artistiek directeur in de afdeling make-up van Chanel. Toch niet zomaar het eerste, beste merk. Inez van Lamsweerde en Vinoodh Matadin, het Nederlands fotografenduo dat telkens weer de grens tussen mode en kunst opzoekt, zijn ondertussen al de lievelingetjes van Emmanuelle Alt (hoofdredactrice van Vogue Paris). En die namen zijn niet de enige talenten in onze gebieden, laat dat vooral duidelijk zijn. Ze zijn met zoveel meer, en nog belangrijker, er zijn nog superveel talenten die niet ontdekt zijn. We moeten koesteren wat we hebben. We moeten voor naambekendheid zorgen, want talenten hebben we al. De boodschap is die talenten hier, in België en Nederland, te houden. Daar loopt het vaak mis. We moeten nog groeien in onze editorials. De Vlaamse/Nederlandse versies van wereldvermaarde tijdschriften zoals Elle en L'Officiel hebben we al en het zijn vaak die magazines die het goed doen, omdat het concept geen uitleg nodig heeft. Men weet waarvoor die namen staan, dat zegt ook Karin Swerink, de hoofdredactrice van Vogue Nederland. Ze zegt ook dat het modelandschap in Nederland klaar is voor de Nederlandse versie van de modebijbel bij uitstek, maar dat wil niet zeggen dat er alleen maar gefocust wordt op de Nederlandse modeïndustrie, neen, ook de Belgen krijgen een plaats in het tijdschrift. Ze zegt dat ze er vooral een blad van wil maken dat goed weergeeft wat er reilt en zeilt op vlak van mode in de Lage Landen. Zo wil ze voor haar eerste nummers alles zelf doen, geen interviews of editorials overnemen van andere edities. "Laat ons eerst alles maar lekker zelf doen", zegt ze. En dat, die nuchtere en ijverige aanpak, siert haar. Voor het allereerste nummer werkte ze samen met drie oerhollandse modellen, Romee Strijd, Ymre Stiekema en Josefien Rodermans gefotografeerd door uiteraard een Nederlandse fotograaf, Marc de Groot. Wat ben ik blij dat het voor dit eerste nummer niet Daphne Groeneveld of Lara Stone is geworden. De drie dames werden in kleurrijke tenues gestopt en met die eenvoudige achtergrond springen de kleuren zo van de cover. Een prachtige eerste omslag. Nu nog benieuwd naar de inhoud. Hopelijk wordt het het wachten waard. Nog twee keer slapen en het is zo ver!

Disastrous comeback and its disastrous consequences

I warn you for the amount of 'drama' that is on its way. Let's start with dissecting this title for instance. I have been off the blogosphere for quite some time right now. And I had my reasons. There were moments during which I just had a writer's block and there were also moments during which I had tons and tons of inspiration but I just didn't know how to write it down. And just when I had lots of ideas and topics to write about my computer crashed. And since I'm a little superstitious I thought this was a sign from above. The fashion gods just don't want me to write about 'la mode'. Now, I'm thinking: screw you! I'll write whenerver I want and what I want to write about! So here I am, making a 'comeback'. What a dreadful word. It just makes me nautious. I also have some surprises for you. I'm not going to reveal what these surprises are, you just have to follow this beacon of -let's hope- inspiration. Okey, I'll give you a hint: it involves this 'fashion friend' of mine. Curious? Stay tuned.

L'officiel Paris February 2012- Editorial/ Review
I couldn't help but post these pictures of this month's L'officiel Paris. It was a very special edition indeed. You'd almost think that it was L'officiel Afrique. What an amazing concept. On the cover Afro-American delight, Chanel Iman, starring in a fashion shoot with two other black beauties. The three models were posing in the prettiest outfits (spring/summer 2012) of huge brands like Dries van Noten, Prada and Chanel. There was also another fantastic photoshoot called 'Belleville-Bamako'. The model, Egle (never heard of her before), was white and that created an amazing contrast between the set, the colourful prints and the make-up, which was kept simple: red lips and a great skin. Tulbands, shades of brown and orange and African prints made this photoshoot super powerful. There was also a lot of hotness and sensuality in this edition and that was because of the 'Riviera Revival' photoshoot, which remembered the glorious times of the riviera during the 50's. That was a bit about this month's L'officiel Paris, if you still do not own this great piece of art: get your fat ass to your newsagent and buy it!
