I feel like Lana Del Rey always captures this suburban melancholia, a place between hopelessness and forgotten ambition. A place between dreaming and surviving. A place where the future doesn't excist, it's about the now and here and tomorrow's another story. It's the moment, it's an instance of youthful recklessness. It's about falling and messing up inexcusably because we're young. Because we know we can go wrong at 18 knowing we'll be conformist adults at 33. And that somehow is a sad yet comforting (?) thought.
It's like the 60's generation. They all did drugs and alcohol. They were rebellious and were almost against everything but at 40 they had a job, a house, kids, two dogs and a car. They turned into conformists and forgot about capitalism, feminism, the Vietnam war. And I think that's what Lana Del Rey tried to show us because no one's gonna take her soul away, she's living like Jim Morrison.
And I have created a couple of outfits to accompany that vibe. I tried to incorporate black in every outfit because that's just the chiquest colour to wear and because I hardly wear anything else. I also wanted gold, roses and underwear with screamy logos. I felt like staying close to the 90's vibe, hence Calvin Klein and that ying yang necklace. And deep burgundies were also absolutely necessary to create that extra dimension of drama.
There is actually no clue or consistency in the collage I've created above. It was just a way to share one of the many enchanting Lana Del Rey pics featured in this month's L'Officiel Paris. In that photoshoot we see a furiously sexy Del Rey, who remains mysterious with every taken picture. The setting, the outfits, the make-up, the hair, everything was in balance and the whole story about a certain 'Rosalita' (impersonated by Lana) was just so credible. And even though I would like to go on and on about Lana's pictures this post was meant to be about something else.
Let's talk about confusion. Confusion is when you enter a twilight zone. Confusion is when you know the answer but your lips are too afraid to form the words. Confusion is screaming in your head while everything around you is quiet. Confusion is being in the moment but not daring to use your initiative. Love is confusion. Friendship is confusion. And confusion is either downfall, either enlightenment.

I thought I still had to give you this tacky yet very idylic screensaver image. I just love how the landscape is also reflected in the lake. It looks so peaceful and calm and it even seems te be spring in this picture. You know, the kind of weather that makes you wanna get out of your shorts and tee and jump in the water with your cute polkadot bikini. 50's romanticism, corny, I know, I know but my soul needs some enlightment and sun as Belgian weather is freezing our thoughts and even feelings. And you can take this quite literally because the kind of coldness we're experiencing in Belgium is the kind of cold that makes you forget about every other thought or feeling and makes you aggressively impatient to reach your often less cold destination.
The worst thing actually is that I do not have ONE single thing that could keep me warm. Yesterday I realized that my winter wardrobe is the same as my summer wardrobe but with the added pantyhose, scarf and coat of course. As a result I'm freezing (as in -10°C!) my butt off everyday. Need to get a grip and get some thick and cosy jumpers. In the meantime I'm having private concerts in my room and practicing on my Lana Del Rey face. I'm suffering from wintertime sadness and I'm absolutely loving it. Melancholia never felt so good.
This intense vibe is accompanied by a couple of pre fall looks taken from the Proenza Schouler and Alexander McQueen collection. Both very different in colour and material but they've got this deep midnight thrill to it. You know, the kind of night that carries mysteries with itself? Time to reveal those secrets as we take a look at the pictures.
Alexander McQueen
Proenza Schouler
Notes:McQueen reminded me of this Roman, dark, secret cult priests. The cape and the velvet they've used for it, was utterly luxurious. P. Schouler on the other hand used this metalic printed fabric in goldy yellow and petroleum green and I cannot tell you how much in love I am with that dress. I hate those kind of necklines but this dress is so amazing, I'm willing to look past that.
Even though the title refers to 'Ride', this is the one that has been on repeat lately.

Changing the blog name has been something I've wanted to do for quite some time now. I've been looking out for blog names for a couple of months. There were a few options regarding new names but I picked this one. I guess I was inspired by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There isn't a deeper meaning to the new name actually. I just thought it sounded cool and that's why I chose to use it. Also, it's time for something else. Fashionmania almost exists for two years (1 year/Weblog, 1 year/Blogger) so I thought it was time to turn tables.
This song is one of the best things that happened to me. Lana Del Rey really is a magician. The lyrics are pure literature. How she discribes reality kind of makes your body float to some higher universe.

Photoshoot: "Being a princess ain't all it's cracked up to be"
Model: Marte Mei van Haaster
In love with Jil Sander's paisley prints (second picture) and the Nike trainers. The colour is so sweet! Loved this photoshoot because it has that sporty feel to it. It's still so sensual and edgy. One of my favourite photoshoots of this issue. It's also the first issue I've ever bought.
